There s something very comforting about fairy tales, not just that they remind one of childhood, when life was so much simpler, but also because they reflect a nicely black and white morality, in a world where the good win out and the wicked are punishedThis collection is a delight There are all the old favourites, the really classic Hans Christian Andersen tales, the Brothers Grimm, and my long time favourite Jean de Boschere And it s a treat to read these familiar stories in their original form which is considerably darker than the cleaned up Disneyfied versions we ve come to know. The only criticism I can make which has reduced this to 4 rather than 5 stars is that there are quite a number of typos, which is really only to be expected in a collection this huge, and the lack of illustrations again, not entirely unexpected in a volume of this size, age, and price Still, an absolute treat, and a fantastic investment not only of the 99p price, but of the hours and hours of time it would take to read the whole thing.

The stories are not written well, and do not reflect the eloquence given in the old days I was rather bored, and could not get through very many of the tales.
