The minimum I would expect from user manual for an accounting package to tell me how to post a journal This books doesn t do that.

I have been a certified xero advisor for 5 years have many clients using the platform and when I saw this I thought I d take a copy and see if I could recommend to my clients. My first thought was that it wasn t great as an initial guide to the software and I found it hard to read this could have been down to my familiarity with Xero so I called up a client and suggested she have borrow this she told me she had all ready purchased it and wasn t finding it much use at all.Her quote was I learned from my initial 90 minute session with you than I did from the book So perhaps this should be taken as a backup to having an advisor in place Xero is a superb platform for cloud accounts but i would advise anyone starting out to make full use of the online resources available from Xero and also engage with an accountant who fully understands the software and who is certified. This books has the potential to help on occasions but I really wouldn t advise anyone to take this book and the software alone and move forward with it.A companion occasional reference book only for me.

I used to implement finance systems for medium to large companies for a living, and have recently come across Xero for the first time it seems to be doing well on the back of the imminent Making Tax Digital requirement. This Dummies book is fairly typical of others in the series as it is laid out clearly and concisely and goes back to basics with the software It s much better than other Dummies books I ve seen for accounting software in that it s actually written for the UK market, so it isn t full of information about US tax requirements, etc, which are t relevant here.Where it is slightly disappointing is that it is aimed solely at commercial organisations, whereas many Xero users will be small not for profit companies It s useful for that part of the audience, but could be better.Overall this is a good book and a decent guide to Xero for novices, with info that will also help experienced users Four stars.

4th Edition Feb 2019, with FOREWORD, from ROD DRURY, FOUNDER of XERO An important note that is worth mentioning at this point One of the greatest features of Xero being a cloud based accounting solution is that Xero can make upgrades or updates to its pages or processes at any time and so the next time you access your file, the upgrades have been implemented No waiting for the next software release But this may mean a page or process you re looking at online isn t exactly the same as that shown in this book.Don t worry the process should still be similar enough that you can use this book to guide you through The current LOOK INSIDE facility above gives a good insight into the layout, including the CONTENTS at the front, along with the 4 page INTRODUCTION BEYOND THE BOOK , which is worth perusing FOOLISH ASSUMPTIONS , on page 3, is also worth reading through. With apparently few books to choose from, I initially went with the back cover description, which includes 1st image below refers Set up your account from scratch Convert from another provider Streamline your reporting Manage inventory Simplify accounts Organise suppliers and customers Track inventory Monitor your business Inside this new edition, you get coverage of the newest features, including updates on generating reports, working with fixed assets and managing contacts, sales and payables so you can optimise your system to help your business thrive From the FOREWORD, by ROD DRURY, FOUNDER OF XERO This book is a great way for you to learn to work in the cloud, and we re sure that as you go through it, or dip into it to take what you need, you ll see that doing your accounts can be easy and rewarding. And hopefully your work will become just a bit fun From page 2 ABOUT THIS BOOK Xero For Dummies, 4th Edition provides a comprehensive outline of how to use the Xero accounting cloud solution The main focus throughout the book is how you can use Xero and its integrated cloud platform to access business intelligence The book steps you through everything you need to know about Xero, taking you through the whole process You re never left hanging, wondering what you re supposed to do next I m with you every step of the way.But the book sticks to the practicalities I know you don t need to be slowed down with unnecessary background information and theories I like the way the book is written, which, I find, makes it easy to dip in out of, with the various icons drawing the eye, i.e WARNING REMEMBER TIP INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL STUFF The current LOOK INSIDE facility above gives a good insight into the layout, including the CONTENTS at the front, along with the 4 page INTRODUCTION and BEYOND THE BOOK , which is worth perusing FOOLISH ASSUMPTIONS , on page 3, is also worth reading through.ooOoo XERO FOR DUMMIES 4th Edition A WILEY BRAND HEATHER SMITH 2019 Printed in Singapore ooOooThe chunky book measures around 18.5 cm x 23.25 cm x 3 cmIn the usual for DUMMIES trademark colours, the paperback cover opens to 456 reasonable quality pages, split over 5 MAIN PARTS, that are subdivided into CHAPTERS 1 GETTING STARTED WITH XERO 2 DAILY ACTIVITIES3 MAKING THE ROUTINE, ROUTINE4 GETTING THE MOST OUT OF XERO5 THE PART OF TENSThe latter is very useful with TEN PLUS ONE TIPS FOR LONG TERM SUCCESS WITH XERO TEN COMMON MISTAKES MADE IN XERO AND HOW TO AVOID THEMAnother useful point to bear in mind, on page 441 TRYING TO MAKE XERO DO WHAT YOUR OLD SYSTEM DID If you re moving from another accounting system or a paper based system, adapting to a new system can be difficult But don t get stuck in a rut of trying to make Xero do what your other system did Work towards learning the new processes and names within the Xero system, so you re working with it rather than against it TIP Try to find 15 or 30 minutes each day for learning new aspects of Xero Pick an issue or a section of a chapter from this book to work on.Embrace the change The book finishes with an alphabetical INDEX, pages 443 452, followed by a note about the author acknowledgements 21 images attached Heather Smith Wiley Publishing Australia Pty Ltd 2019 11 04 19

What a pleasant surprise, this For Dummies Book has been written by a UK author and includeds UK financial information there is USA too So much easier to read and understand if the book is written by a British person for the uk market Paperback, this is a thick book packed with excellent information, tips and how to use Zero accounting software.I personally use Zero as understand it better than Saga which is a mystery However Zero can be confusing This For Dummies Book opens the door to Zero Assuming no prior knowledge the author leads the reader through all they need to know. This is an impressive book.

As expected with a for Dummies book, this one for Xero has all the attributes you would expect Navigation is excellent, and even if you are not familiar with this series of books, all is explained clearly Great for reading about a new feature to get an overview and deciding if you want to use it Great for dipping into as a reference work I ve been using Xero for a couple of years, pretty much dropped in at the deep end and told to get on with it , but wish I d had this book back then I m already seeing new features reports I ll want to use Good value for 14.99.
